When we first got engaged, I figured we had the color scheme thing in the bag. I mean, I have a very unique engagement ring that happens to have a colored main stone. Thus, we defaulted to a color scheme of aquamarine and platinum. Done and done. Um, not so fast there! After about two days of research, we started to realize that what most companies and vendors call aquamarine or aqua is really more of the ever so popular Tiffany blue. Now, don’t get me wrong—I love me some Tiffany’s (my little

I haven’t been feeling very bloggy lately, so I’m a bit behind in blog reading and responding to emails. Enough of that, how bout we check out my new sneaky sneakers: I’ve been focusing a lot on yoga and walking and exercise in general lately. As the days get darker, I need to focus on these things. They make a huge difference to my mood and mindset. I’ve been in desperate need of a new pair of sneakers for awhile, but wasn’t interested in picking up the same style of sneakers I’ve been wea

take a nap. This is advice my mom, somewhat jokingly, gave me growing up. (Along with “you don’t have to be hungry to eat” and when dad asked for some single dollar bills to “always trade up.”) Well, aside from mailing the invites and a first/first and a half dress fitting, the last couple months I have taken a much needed wedding nap. My to do list, which I should really write down, is a mental mile long. There are so many things I haven’t even thought about. There are even guests that I did

I’m going to spend the next while writing a series of posts about The Solar Crash from conception, to planning, to the night itself, to post-event thoughts. Being a part of a dozen weddings every year, I kept thinking of what would it look like to put just as much time, energy, and maybe even money, into celebrating something besides the love of two people, as great as that is. And when you think about weddings, it seems like just about anybody can pull them off. Weddings aren’t limited to a

Symbolism Alone Will Not Bring Change By LEONARD PELTIER I have watched with keen interest and renewed hope as your campaign has mobilized millions of Americans behind your message of changing a political system that serves a small economic elite at the expense of the peoples of the United States and the world. Your election as president of the United States, where slaves and Indians were long considered less than human under the law, will undoubtedly constitute a historic moment in race rel

Planning on having a slide show/video of you and your love at your rehearsal dinner or at the wedding reception (we like the rehearsal dinner option most, but of course, it’s your wedding - you do what you want!)? Here are some music selections that would work wonderfully for such a video (followed by a MixWit tape so you can hear a majority of them): Sweet Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole The Luckiest by Ben Folds 100 Years by Five For Fighting Have I Told You by Tren

Fiction - paperback; Vintage; 307 pages; 2008. (Translated from the French by John Cullen.) This novel, first published in 2005 under the title Les Sirenes de Baghdad in France, is yet another earnest and thought-provoking story by Yasmina Khadra, the non deplume of the Algerian Army officer Mohammed Moulessehoul. While The Attack was set in war-torn Israel and examined what it is that drives people to become suicide bombers, The Sirens of Baghdad is set in war-torn Iraq and looks at what sp

by Eric Jilson As parent’s you want to give the world to your children, and do everything in your power to do so. Unfortunately those precedents that are set when they’re children can carry on well into adulthood, except the $20 toys turn into $20,000 cars, the braces turn into wedding dresses, the family vacations into lavish weddings. As much as you may be willing to continue to shoulder their financial load, you have to take your own survival and retirement plan into consideration. So how ca

Kate Moss has been Tee Pee’d. Actually, she bought these Tee Pees, and installed them in her yard. Though she doesn’t really have a yard, she has something more like grounds. I think the Tee Pees are awesome and want the for my yard. Her neighbors not so much. They don’t want the Tee Pees on Kate’s grounds because, well, we really don’t know why yet. The Planning officer said, “we have had an e-mail complaining about the teepees and asking if they require permission. Our investigating of
